Marcel Wibault: An Artistic Odyssey to the Heart of the Mountains and Family MemoriesMarcel Wibault's artistic beginningsBorn in 1904 in Besançon, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Marcel Wibault revealed his innate passion for drawing at an early age. His artistic talent shone through when he brilliantly depicted the soldiers of the 60th infantry regiment in Besançon. Deciding to hone his skills, this young prodigy entered the École des Beaux-Arts, where he benefited from a solid academic education.
A love of the mountains and artistic evolutionMarcel Wibault's artistic career took a significant turn when he became a member of the French Alpine Club. This membership opened the door to the splendors of the high mountains, a passion that remained a major source of inspiration throughout his career. Settling in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, he immersed himself in the beauty of Alpine landscapes, forging his distinctive artistic style.
Initially, Wibault devoted himself to depicting old houses and landscapes of the Franche-Comté region. After the Second World War, a new artistic phase emerged as he explored Chambéry, focusing mainly on painting alpine hunters. Later, he chose to reside in Chamonix, at the foot of Mont-Blanc, a strategic decision to be as close as possible to the elements he wished to immortalize on canvas.
Artistic and family heritageMarcel Wibault is not only a prolific artist, but also a father whose artistic influence has been passed on to his son Lionel. Today, Lionel is committed to preserving his father's memory by publishing a captivating book on his life and work. This family legacy strengthens the bond between the artist and his passion for the mountains, a connection that transcends generations.
National and international recognitionMarcel Wibault established himself as a recognized painter of his time, making his mark with the authenticity of his landscapes. His abundant artistic output, comprising over 4,000 pieces, is held mainly by French and foreign collectors. The artist, who died in 1998, left a powerful artistic legacy, symbolized by the diversity of his themes, ranging from snow-capped mountains to scenes of life and portraits of children and adults.
