Marie Laurencin, a discovery at auction

Here is this painting of flowers painted by Marie Laurencin which was rediscovered in a Parisian estate.
Of a beautiful provenance, this painting was acquired in 1952 at the Galerie Gafie.
Marie Laurencin imposed herself from 1907, at the Salon des indépendants where she exhibited for the first time, with her lover Guillaume Apollinaire and within the "bande à Picasso". She was dear from the beginning to Georges Braque, her fellow student at the Humbert Academy in 1904, as she was to Jean Cocteau, future librettist of the ballet Les Biches in 1924. Among the representatives of the École de Paris, she produced a considerable body of work (nearly two thousand oil paintings, numerous drawings and watercolors, some three hundred engravings, as well as several theater sets), proving her attachment to mark with a delicate but visible seal the great adventure of the moderns.
Marie Laurencin declined flowers through various bouquets, alone or framing her pretty young girls so typical of the artist.
