Edgar Degas The little dancer of 14 years old

The model identified is a young dancer named Marie van Goethem, aged 14 years old. The original sculpture, whose body is made of colored wax imitating the texture of human skin, was covered with real fabric accessories and a wig made of hair by Mrs. Cusset, a wig maker, and was presented in a glass cage. The bronze print keeps as real accessories only the hair ribbon and the skirt, the rest being covered with various colored patinas that differentiate the body from the clothes.
