The Dominance of the Female Figure in the Work of Jean-Pierre Cassigneul

Jean-Pierre Cassigneul's entire body of work is distinguished by the dominance of the female figure, as well as by the representation of the places that marked his childhood and present existence. His captivating art explores the imagination through still lifes, bouquets, gardens and copses, evolving over time while succeeding the initial landscapes of his beginnings. The imprint of Deauville's landscapes, secondary themes such as sailboats, liners, railings and the presence of familiar animals can be found throughout his work.

Born in Paris in 1935, Jean-Pierre Cassigneul grew up in a family deeply involved in the fashion industry, an immersion in which the fusion of Paris with the image of women became a constant source of inspiration. As a descendant of the founders of the Jean Dessès fashion house, he unconsciously absorbed the cult of women and elegance that permeated this world, an influence evident in his artistic work where the feminine presence remains a constant.

His happy childhood was followed by an almost idyllic adolescence, marked by studies at the Académie Charpentier and then the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Cassigneul's true artistic journey began on his return to Paris, where he quickly became a member of the Salon d'Automne. His exhibitions spread throughout France, the United States and, simultaneously, Japan.

His body of work reflects the influence of women and the places that have marked his past and present. In addition to portraits, he explores still lifes, bouquets, gardens and copses, broadening his artistic horizon beyond the initial landscapes. Landscapes of Deauville occupy a special place, as do recurring themes such as sailboats, liners, evergreen railings, and pets, sometimes depicted as cats or small dogs, discreet but warm presences.

International recognition and success

International recognition began in Japan (150 works on permanent display at the Izu Lake Ippeki Museum), then in the United States (New York, Palm Beach, Beverly Hills, Chicago...) before finally spreading to Europe. In 1987, the Mairie de Paris dedicated a major exhibition to him at the Trianon de Bagatelle. His works are held in prestigious collections around the world, from France to Switzerland, from the United States to Japan and Brazil, testifying to his global impact on the art world.
