Christophe Fratin

Christophe Fratin

The meteoric rise of Christophe Fratin, born in Metz in January 1801, was marked by the success of his sculptures. After a disappointing start under the tutelage of Charles Augustin Pioche, he moved to Paris, where he studied alongside Théodore Géricault. Between 1831 and 1842, Fratin was an active participant in numerous Parisian salons, attracting the attention of the aristocracy.

A romantic and humorous work focusing on the animal kingdom:

The son of a taxidermist, Fratin excelled at depicting animals, particularly horses. His thorough mastery of animal anatomy is reflected in his sculptures, fusing romance and humor through meticulous detail. In the late 1830s, he turned to the creation of small commercial models and editions, becoming a pioneer in the field of edition sculpture.
