Ary BITTER (1883-1973) - TWO POLAR BEARS - Two pendant bronzes, richly shaded brown patina.old proofs "Ary Bitter sculpsit", old edition of "Susse Frères Éditeurs Paris" (usual plate) Circa: 1935 - Top: 23.9 cm, Long: 11.7 cm, Prof: 15.8 cm - Note: Born in 1883 in Marseilles, Ary Jean Léon Bitter was admitted to the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1906. In 1910, he exhibits for the first time at the Salon National des Artistes Français and obtains an honourable mention with "l'enfant au chevreau". He then exhibits regularly at this Salon until 1939 and is awarded a bronze medal in 1913, a silver medal in 1921, a gold medal in 1934. In the course of his career, he received a number of public commissions, including a fountain in Nantes in 1913, and a "Lion and Child" group for the decoration of the monumental staircase at the Saint Charles station in Marseille.
