Denys PUECH
Denys PUECH (1854-1942) - The Seine, 1886 - Bronze with dark brown patina - Fumière et Cie - 24 x 71,5 x 14 cm - Similar model sent for the Prix de Rome in 1886 and Salon of 1887 After twelve years of effort, he obtained the Grand Prix de Rome in 1884 with Mézence blessé. In 1885, Denys Puech left for Rome for the Villa Médicis, then directed by Louis Cabat (1812- 1893) and Pierre-Eugène Hébert (1828-1893) who guided him. Alongside Axilete and Victor D'Espouy, he visited Italy which became a source of inspiration for him. Like the other residents of the Villa Medici, Denys Puech had to draw his inspiration from antiquity. He complied with this requirement but often chose rare subjects. His first submission, The Seine, was a great success. The State will buy it. Then in 1886, Denys Puech proposed for his three following sendings, The Muse of André Chénier, The Siren and The Vision of Saint-Antoine de Padoue.
