After focusing on his inner fixed point for two years, in 2011 he began to look closely at Leonardo da Vinci's portrait of Ginevra da Benci. Guffogg immersed himself in Da Vinci's portrait of the young woman and applied his new-found calm to a visual conversation he wanted to have with Leonardo by taking the lines, shapes and colors and weaving them into a series of abstract paintings. After all, Guffogg says he's a realist painter and abstraction is his subject.
