The top features a putto, a frequent theme in Parisian trimmings of the XIXᵉ century. This type of clock, known as a "cartel de table" or "pendule Boulle de style", widely produced in the XIXᵉ and early XXᵉ centuries, decorated bourgeois salons and mantels.
