French school, late XIXᵉ - early XXᵉ century - Lot 206

French school, late XIXᵉ - early XXᵉ century Fireplace surround elements Enameled green décor with geometric and plant motifs in relief Comprising several straight elements and two corners Some chips and wear Note: Beautiful set of glazed ceramic decorative plates, originally intended to form the surround of a fireplace or decorative niche. The rich deep green color, typical of French and Belgian production in the late XIXᵉ century, and the relief motifs (pearls, medallions, arabesques) recall the neo-Renaissance style and interior architectural ornaments of bourgeois houses in the 1880-1920 period. Today, this type of element is as much in demand for the restoration of old mantels as for contemporary decoration, where it is integrated as wall panels or furniture elements.
