Michel HERMANS (XXth) - Lot 171
Michel HERMANS (XXth) Police officer versus demonstrator, May 68, rue du Sommerard, 5th arrondissement, Paris, May 6, 1968 Vintage silver print Handwritten caption and photographer's stamp on back 18.5 x 23.5 cm Note: In the spring of 1968, Paris became the scene of a vast social and student movement that had a lasting impact on French society. The days of early May, marked by clashes in the Latin Quarter, crystallized the protest against authority, university structures and, more broadly, a political order deemed to be rigid. May 6, the date of this photograph, was one of the first major days of confrontation.
