20th century French school Saint Pierre de Montmartre, 1970 Ink Signed lower right, located and dated 1970 Size with frame: 42.5 x 32.7 cm Note: This view of Saint-Pierre de Montmartre, painted in 1970, demonstrates the artist's mastery of ink drawing. The artist composes the building with a subtle interplay of bluish washes and nervous strokes, lending the scene a silent, wintry atmosphere. The sober yet precise architectural volumes emerge from an almost immaculate background, while the bare trees accentuate the verticality of the whole. The work captures the soul of old Montmartre with a graphic elegance that evokes both illustration and the tradition of architectural drawing.
