P. SALLES (20th century) - Lot 38

P. SALLES (20th century) Set of three oils on canvas Still life; Still life; View of the forest 1982 Dimensions of each canvas: 46.5 x 55 cm Note: In this still life dated 1982, P. Salles adopts a deliberately simplified pictorial language, close to a post-Fauve or Cloisonnist aesthetic. The objects - a bright orange jug, a green bottle, fruit in bold colors - are framed by dark outlines that structure the composition and accentuate the graphic effect. The vivid, unmodelled palette creates a marked contrast with the almost uniform, deep purple background, which brings out the warmth of the scene. The whole evokes a decorative, expressive style of painting, in which stylization takes precedence over realism. The brushstrokes are controlled and stable, and the balance of the composition is based on the repetition of simple shapes and the juxtaposition of colored fields.
