Jules CAVAILLES - Lot 16

Jules CAVAILLES Bouquet of flowers in the studio Oil on canvas Signed lower right 65 x 46 cm Provenance: Blache sale, Versailles, 11/23/1969. Note: The vivid palette - luminous yellows, acid greens, bold blues and touches of red - is characteristic of the world of Jules Cavaillès, a painter associated with the French tradition of color and optimistic decorative figuration. The brushstrokes are free, almost naive in their apparent simplicity, but perfectly mastered. Shapes are synthesized, volumes suggested by color rather than drawing, lending the whole a fresh visual quality. This work is fully in keeping with the artist's mature production, much sought-after for her still lifes and floral compositions.
