José NICOLAS (1956) - Lot 256

José NICOLAS (1956) Humanitarian convoy, Afghanistan, 1984 Silver print Dimensions including margins: 50 x 40 cm Note: In Convoi humanitaire, Afghanistan, 1984, José Nicolas captures a moment of displacement and survival, set against an almost overwhelming mineral landscape. The smallness of the human figures against the arid immensity underscores the fragility of their existence, but also their silent perseverance. True to his humanist approach, the photographer does not seek the spectacular: he shows the slowness, effort and dignity of everyday life. This image, both sober and powerful, bears witness to his attentive eye for the margins of the world, and his determination to make photography a tool of memory and testimony.
