The tight framing, the symmetry of the face framed by the hands, and the depth of the gaze establish a direct relationship with the viewer, with no escape. The finely perceptible grain of silver gives the skin an almost tactile texture, while maintaining a distance, like a veil, between the subject and us. The light, soft but precise, models the features without excessive dramatization: it reveals rather than dramatizes. The title, Ephélis, suggests an apparition, something fleeting, and the image seems suspended in an in-between place, between presence and withdrawal, strength and vulnerability.
