JEAN GIONO, portrait of the writer, 1930s. - Lot 162
JEAN GIONO, portrait of the writer, 1930s. Photo, silver print by Emile Gos Photographer's signature on one corner of the image and his wet stamp on the back. Dimensions: 23.5 x 17.7 cm. Note: Portrait of Jean Giono (1895-1970), a major French writer of the XXᵉ century, taken in the 1930s by photographer Émile Gos. An author deeply attached to Provence and nature, Giono made his mark between the wars with works such as Colline (1929), Regain (1930) and Le Chant du monde (1934), which celebrate rural landscapes and traditions. The photograph is by Émile Gos, a portraitist active in the first half of the XXᵉ century. The silver print bears the photographer's signature on the image and his wet stamp on the back, characteristic of author portraits intended for editorial distribution and the literary press of the period.
