FREHEL - FÊTE FORAINE, realist singer, 1949 - Lot 256
FREHEL - FÊTE FORAINE, realist singer, 1949 One photo (contact sheet with five images) by Michel Brodsky, vintage silver print Stamp (including photographer), annotation and paper residue glued to back Dimensions: 23.2 x 18.5 cm Note: Fréhel (Marguerite Boulc'h, 1891-1951), a French realist singer, was one of the great figures of popular song between the wars. Singer of such famous songs as La Java bleue (1939) and Où sont tous mes amants? she embodied the world of chanson réaliste, marked by lyrics evoking working-class life, unhappy love affairs and Parisian neighborhoods. This photograph, taken in 1949 by Michel Brodsky, takes the form of a contact sheet with five images, showing the artist in the atmosphere of a funfair. The image bears witness to the iconography devoted to the singer at the end of her career, associated with the popular universe and places of entertainment that often nourish the imagination of chanson réaliste.
