Here, she plays on a double effect: two men with similar silhouettes, separated by space but linked by light and shadows. The composition is built around the vertical lines of the staircase and façade, while the harsh light cuts through the bodies and casts almost theatrical shadows. The central figure, absorbed in his reading, contrasts with the one on the left, more static, as if waiting.
