Aldo SOARES (1960) - Lot 98
Aldo SOARES (1960) Insemination, 1997 Vintage silver print Dimensions including margins: 40 x 30 cm Note: This photograph confronts the eye with a technical, precise, almost clinical gesture, part of everyday rural life. Soares does not dramatize the scene: he shows it head-on, without detours, revealing the asymmetrical relationship between man and animal. The tight framing, sharp lighting and concentrated gestures shift the image away from the merely documentary towards a silent reflection on the mastery, control and materiality of living things. Far from the picturesque, the image questions our relationship with what is usually kept off-camera.
