José NICOLAS (1956) - Lot 383
José NICOLAS (1956) Couple of boat people, China Sea, 1987 Lambda print On the back, signed, dated, titled, located and numbered 6/12 Dimensions including margins: 24 x 17.5 cm Note: In this photograph taken in 1987 in the China Sea, José Nicolas captures a rare moment of intimacy between two young refugees, survivors of exile. The tight framing and soft lighting highlight the tenderness of the gesture, the glances exchanged, the fragility mingled with hope. The young woman's smile contrasts with the fatigue visible on their faces, evoking both the ordeal they have been through and the strength of the bond that unites them. More than a simple portrait, this image is a deeply moving human testimony to love and solidarity in the face of uncertainty.
