Claude VESCO (1950) - Lot 318
Claude VESCO (1950) Policemen in Manhattan, New York City, 1980 Silver print On the back, signed, located, dated and numbered 1/12 Dimensions including margins: 30 x 40 cm Note: Claude Vesco acutely captures the energy of major metropolises, revealing street moments where glances, attitudes and movements mingle. His photography, both documentary and instinctive, captures the vitality of everyday urban life. In this scene from Manhattan in 1980, the policeman in the foreground converses with the flow of passers-by, composing a dense, rhythmic, almost cinematographic image. Born in Marseilles in 1950, Vesco developed a keen eye for everyday moments at an early age. By the 1970s, he was already photographing the jazz and blues scenes, building up a valuable archive of great musicians. Between Marseille, New York and his many travels, he followed in the tradition of street photography, favoring spontaneity, the right frame and light. This silver print, numbered (1/12) and annotated on the back, captivates with its narrative richness and graphic intensity. A lively, timeless work, carried by a deeply human gaze.
