GINGER ROGERS - Lot 108
GINGER ROGERS During the shooting of Mitchell Leisen's film "Lady in the Dark" (Les Nuits ensorcelées), costumes by Raoul Pene du Bois, 1944. Photo, period silver print, muted back. 25.4 x 20.7 cm including blank edges. A few breaks in the paper, mostly visible only against the light. Note: Spectacular image of Ginger Rogers in one of her most iconic roles of the 1940s, from the musical Lady in the Dark. The photograph features a particularly elaborate costume by Raoul Pène du Bois, a major figure in Hollywood costume, with a highly graphic composition: the actress is framed as if in a painting, accentuating the effect of theatrical staging. This type of publicity portrait, combining major star, notable film and identifiable costume design, is of high interest to collectors. Ginger Rogers, world-famous for her musicals with Fred Astaire, enjoys a strong market, and images related to her rarer solo productions are particularly sought-after. Despite slight breaks, the image retains excellent visual presence. The richness of the costume and the quality of the composition reinforce its appeal in the Hollywood glamour photography segment.
