VIVRE SA VIE - MY LIFE TO LIVE - Lot 160
VIVRE SA VIE - MY LIFE TO LIVE Anna Karina... on the set of Jean-Luc Godard's film, 1962. Photo, vintage silver print, credits under image (US release) and annotated on back. 20.7 x 25.4 cm including edges. Note: This set photograph shows Anna Karina during the shooting of Vivre sa vie, a major work by Jean-Luc Godard and an emblematic film of the Nouvelle Vague. The presence of the American credits makes this a print intended for international distribution, rarer than strictly French prints. The composition, combining the intimacy of the dressing room and the female body, reflects the film's central themes: the gaze, representation and construction of the image. Anna Karina, Godard's muse and wife at the time, plays one of his most striking roles. The photographs from Vivre sa vie are particularly sought-after, both for their importance in the history of cinema and for Anna Karina's central place in the visual imagination of the 1960s.
