PSYCHEDELIC GOUACHE - Lot 38
PSYCHEDELIC GOUACHE A little piece of the moon, circa 1970 Original psychedelic gouache on paper Wrapped in fabric Dimensions: 50 x 65 cm Note: This psychedelic gouache, produced around 1970, is part of the visual aesthetic characteristic of the counterculture of the late 1960s and early 1970s, marked by the influence of rock, underground art and the graphic experiments associated with the psychedelic movement. The abundant composition combines female figures, cosmic motifs, free typography and undulating forms in a tangle of images reminiscent of concert posters, fanzines and experimental illustrations from the period. The high-contrast black-and-white treatment reinforces the hypnotic effect of the scene, where the silhouettes seem to float in a dreamlike, hallucinatory universe. The spirals, eyes, stars and fragments of text are part of an iconography typical of the visual culture associated with psychedelic music and the artistic research of the time. Produced in gouache on paper and then mounted on canvas, this work bears witness to a spontaneous and inventive graphic style, representative of the formal freedom that characterized alternative artistic production around 1970.
