WALLIS SIMPSON - Lot 22
WALLIS SIMPSON The future Duchess of Windsor, described as “The Best-Dressed Woman in Town” by Vogue magazine, 1936. Photo by Cecil Beaton, vintage silver gelatin print, captioned (label dated with photographer’s credit), stamped (including date), and annotated on the back. 23.2 x 17.7 cm including white borders. Slight discoloration in the lower portion (most visible on the white borders) and some of the white borders are wavy. Note: Before becoming the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson had already established herself as a true style icon, celebrated by *Vogue* in 1936. Through Cecil Beaton’s lens, her understated and distinctive elegance shines through in a portrait that has become emblematic of its era.
