PIERRE CARDIN AND HIROKO MATSUMOTO Fitting with the designer’s favorite model, “Mademoiselle Hiroko,” 1961. Photograph, vintage silver print, stamped (date) and annotated on the back. 27.5 x 21 cm, including white margins. Some dust on the print and some edges show signs of handling. Note: As Pierre Cardin’s muse, Hiroko Matsumoto was one of the first Japanese models to make a name for herself in Parisian haute couture. Captured here in the middle of a fitting with the designer, she embodies the international outlook and modernity that already characterized Cardin’s world in the early 1960s.
