CARTIER
"Bird" BROOCH in platinum (950‰) and yellow gold (750‰), fully engraved, set with brilliant-cut diamonds (with a chip on the diamond in the eye).
Made in France.
Signed CARTIER, numbered. Jeweler’s master’s hallmark. Circa 1950–60.
Dimensions: approx. 4.3 x 3.5 x 1.2 cm. Gross weight: 14 g.
Note: A beautiful figurative Cartier brooch reflecting the House’s taste for animal-themed jewelry in the mid-20th century. The bird, rendered with great naturalistic care, displays remarkable goldsmithing: the plumage is entirely chiseled and engraved; the wings and breast are accented with diamonds set in white metal; the eye is set with a diamond; and the tail is visually articulated through the interplay of volumes.
The composition is particularly lively, with the bird depicted perched on a branch itself accented by a diamond. Signed Cartier and numbered 01389, this brooch combines the textured work of yellow gold with the brilliance of diamonds, in an aesthetic characteristic of the House’s animal-themed creations from the 1950s and 1960s.
