Sacha SOSNO (1937–2013) - Lot 308
Sacha SOSNO (1937–2013) The Square Head, 2012 Sandblasted and polished cast aluminum Signed and dated on the base, limited to 8 copies. Foundry mark: Fonderia Artistica de Carli, Turin H. 45 cm Bibliography: Similar work in bronze, page 79, in SOSNO, P. Restany, M. Thévoz Note: A leading figure of the School of Nice, Sacha Sosno developed his work around the principle of “obliteration,” which involves concealing part of the figure to better draw the viewer’s gaze. The “Square Head,” an emblematic motif in his work, here juxtaposes the curves of a classical bust with the geometric rigidity of a cube that conceals the face. This theme finds its most monumental expression in the famous “Tête Carrée de Nice,” a public sculpture unveiled in 2002.
