Jean FAUTRIER (1898–1964) - Lot 330
Jean FAUTRIER (1898–1964)
Reclining Woman I
Etching and aquatint on Japanese paper
Numbered XVI/XXV in the lower left corner and signed in pencil in the lower right margin
28.2 x 38 cm
Bibliography: Engelberts 1941/24, Mason 252
Note: A major figure in Informel art, Jean Fautrier (1898–1964) placed great emphasis on the human body, which he readily reduced to free and simplified forms. In *Femme étendue I*, the female nude is constructed through a network of clear lines emerging from a deep black background, in an interplay between figuration and abstraction characteristic of his graphic explorations. The print on Japanese paper, limited here to twenty-five copies, underscores the refined nature of this print.
