BUSTER KEATON - Lot 161
BUSTER KEATON During the shooting of Edward Sedgwick's "Speak Easily" (The Professor), Adrian costumes, 1932. Photo, vintage silver print, captioned and annotated on back. 20.3 x 25.7 cm including blank edges. Note: Photograph of Buster Keaton on the set of Speak Easily (The Professor), directed by Edward Sedgwick and released in 1932, with costumes designed by Adrian, MGM's famous designer. During this period of transition from silent to talkies, Buster Keaton pursued his career with the major Hollywood studios, while maintaining his burlesque style based on visual gags and his character's legendary impassivity. Adrian, a costume designer emblematic of Hollywood's golden age, contributed his elegance to the sophisticated aesthetic of MGM productions in the 1930s. Set photographs bearing captions, publication annotations and crop marks bear direct witness to the work of the press and publishing departments of the time, enhancing their documentary interest for collectors of classic American cinema. Traces of handling, in particular marks (light strokes) for cropping the image for publication. Note:
