ANTHONY PERKINS - Lot 189
ANTHONY PERKINS Symbolism of the door... set for Orson Welles' film "The Trial", based on the novel by Franz Kafka, 1962. Photo, silver print on vintage cartoline paper, annotated on back. 23 x 28.6 cm. Note: Photograph of Anthony Perkins in a setting with strong symbolic resonances during the shooting of The Trial, a film directed by Orson Welles and released in 1962, based on the novel by Franz Kafka. This expressionist, labyrinthine adaptation of Kafka's famous text is one of the major works of Orson Welles' European period. Anthony Perkins plays Joseph K., a character plunged into an oppressive world of bureaucracy and existential anguish. Welles' staging, based on monumental architecture and perspective effects, reinforces the metaphorical, disquieting dimension of the story. Of particular interest to collectors of auteur cinema and literary adaptations of the XXᵉ century are the set photographs highlighting the film's sets and visual symbolism. Photo manipulated, particularly on the edges (in aprticular a thumbtack hole at each corner tip).
