JEAN-PAUL SARTRE - Lot 159
JEAN-PAUL SARTRE During the filming of Jean Delannoy’s movie “Les Jeux sont faits,” with Mouloudji (in two photos)..., 1947. 4 photos by Paul Ronald, vintage silver gelatin prints (including one on card stock), stamped on the back and annotated on all of them. Approximately 13 x 18 cm each. Note: This set of four photographs taken in 1947 by Paul Ronald is related to the filming of Jean Delannoy’s *Les Jeux sont faits*, a film adaptation of an original screenplay by Jean-Paul Sartre. They notably feature Sartre in the company of actor and singer Mouloudji, who plays one of the film’s leading roles. A major philosopher, writer, and playwright of existentialism, Sartre occupied a central place in postwar French intellectual life at the time. *Les Jeux sont faits* represents one of his most significant forays into the world of cinema, exploring themes dear to him such as freedom, fate, and social commitment. These vintage prints offer a particularly fascinating insight into the connections between literature, philosophy, and cinema in immediate postwar France, as seen through the lens of one of the 20th century’s most influential intellectual figures.
