ROBERT BROWNJOHN - Lot 177
ROBERT BROWNJOHN "Obsession and Fantasy"… Exhibition poster for the installation at the Robert Fraser Gallery—London, 1961. Photo by Gilbert Boisgontier, vintage silver print, stamped by the photographer and annotated on the back. 23.5 x 18 cm, including white borders. Cropping marks drawn on the image for publication. Robert Brownjohn is known as a graphic designer who also created the opening credits for the early James Bond films (Goldfinger, etc.). Note: This photograph, taken in 1961 by Gilbert Boisgontier, documents the *Obsession and Fantasy* exhibition dedicated to Robert Brownjohn at the Robert Fraser Gallery in London. One of the most innovative graphic designers of his generation, Brownjohn established himself as a major figure in international graphic design thanks to his bold approach blending typography, photography, and popular culture. His name remains particularly associated with the creation of the famous opening credits for the early James Bond films, including *From Russia with Love* and *Goldfinger*, which have become landmarks in the history of visual design. This exhibition view attests to the recognition his work already enjoyed in the artistic London of the early 1960s, at the heart of a particularly dynamic creative scene. Taken by Gilbert Boisgontier, this vintage photograph is a valuable document of the world of graphic design and the postwar visual avant-garde.
