ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG - Lot 182
ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG Installation of the painting "Reservoir" during the exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, 1964. Photograph, vintage silver print, captioned (dated label), stamped, and annotated on the back. 20.6 x 14.3 cm, including white borders. Note: This photograph, taken in 1964, documents the installation of Robert Rauschenberg’s *Reservoir* during his exhibition at the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris. A major figure in postwar American art, Rauschenberg profoundly transformed artistic practices by blurring the boundaries between painting, sculpture, photography, and everyday objects. His famous *Combines* and assemblages helped pave the way for Pop Art, Conceptual Art, and numerous contemporary forms of expression. Presented at a time when the artist was gaining growing international recognition, the work *Reservoir* illustrates his interest in experimentation, the accumulation of images, and the integration of disparate elements within a single creation. This original print is a valuable testament to the reception of American art in Europe in the 1960s and to one of Robert Rauschenberg’s landmark exhibitions in Paris.
