Note: A set of nine photographs documenting Mickey Rooney’s final major public honors between 1983 and 1984. Several images capture the 55th Academy Awards ceremony, during which the actor received an Honorary Oscar in recognition of his lifetime achievement. The various shots notably show the presentation of the statuette, the emotional moments following the ceremony,
as well as a portrait in which he is being kissed by his grandson. Other photographs show him during the announcement of the nominations for the 56th Academy Awards alongside Gene Allen, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and on the set of the TV movie *Bill: On His Own* with Dennis Quaid. Preserved with their original captions and stamps, these prints form a cohesive collection dedicated to the final major public appearances of one of the leading figures of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
