FAYE DUNAWAY AND MICKEY ROURKE - Lot 20
FAYE DUNAWAY AND MICKEY ROURKE During the filming of Barbet Schroeder’s movie “Barfly,” based on a screenplay by Charles Bukowski, 1987. 2 photos, vintage RC prints, credits below the images, blank backs. 12.5 x 17.8 cm each, including borders. Note: Directed by Barbet Schroeder in 1987 from an original screenplay by Charles Bukowski, *Barfly* delves into the world of working-class bars and run-down rooms in Los Angeles. Mickey Rourke plays Henry Chinaski, a marginalized, alcoholic writer and Bukowski’s cinematic alter ego, who divides his time between writing, fighting, and drunken nights. Faye Dunaway plays Wanda Wilcox, another bar regular with whom he forms a passionate, chaotic, and deeply supportive relationship. Far from her sophisticated Hollywood image, the actress delivers a deliberately gritty performance opposite a Mickey Rourke transformed by his physicality and delivery. Long championed by Barbet Schroeder before it could be produced, the film recreates Bukowski’s autobiographical world with dark humor and without idealization. These two photographs capture the particularly memorable encounter between the two actors during filming.
