NADINE NORTIER AND A DOLL - Lot 57
NADINE NORTIER AND A DOLL Scene from Robert Bresson’s film “Mouchette,” based on the novel by Georges Bernanos, 1966. Photograph, original silver print, production stamp on the back. 12.3 x 17.2 cm. Note: Nadine Nortier plays Mouchette, a poor and lonely teenager confronted with the violence of the adult world, in Robert Bresson’s adaptation of Georges Bernanos’s novel. Living with a brutal father and a dying mother, and rejected by her peers, the young girl takes on responsibilities that prematurely strip her of her childhood. In this context, the doll can be seen as a poignant reminder of the innocence and tenderness to which Mouchette has little access. True to his minimalist aesthetic, Bresson casts a non-professional actress in the role and films his heroine’s distress without any exaggerated effects. The film was shot in 1966 and released in 1967
