MARLENE DIETRICH AND CHARLES BOYER - Lot 80
MARLENE DIETRICH AND CHARLES BOYER During the filming of Richard Boleslawski's movie "The Garden of Allah" (Le Jardin d'Allah), 1935. Later silver print (1955), credits below the image (including the year), stamped and annotated on the back. 25.5 x 20.7 cm including edges. Note: In *The Garden of Allah*, directed by Richard Boleslawski and released in 1936, Marlene Dietrich and Charles Boyer portray two tormented souls brought together against the backdrop of the Sahara. She plays Domini Enfilden, a young woman seeking spiritual renewal; he is Boris Androvsky, a Trappist monk who fled his order after a crisis of faith. Their passion soon clashes with the fugitive’s secret and guilt. Produced by David O. Selznick based on the novel by Robert Hichens, this exotic melodrama was one of the first major Hollywood productions shot in trichrome Technicolor, and it won a special Oscar for its color cinematography.
