MARLENE DIETRICH AND JEAN GABIN - Lot 108
MARLENE DIETRICH AND JEAN GABIN During the filming of Georges Lacombe’s movie “Martin Roumagnac”; Dietrich is dressed by Jean Dessès, 1946. Photo by Paul Ronald, vintage silver gelatin print on card stock, credits (including the photographer) in the image, blank reverse. 24 x 29.3 cm including margins. A few signs of handling visible only when held up to the light and a thumbtack hole in the corner. Note: The only on-screen collaboration between Marlene Dietrich and Jean Gabin—who were a couple in real life at the time—*Martin Roumagnac* depicts a passion as intense as it is destructive. Gabin plays a provincial building contractor who falls in love with Blanche Ferrand, an elegant widow portrayed by Dietrich, to the point of being driven to crime. Adapted from the novel by Pierre-René Wolf, the 1946 film marked the postwar return of the two stars. Filmed primarily around Saint-Dizier and at the Saint-Maurice studios, it remains Dietrich’s only French film and the only one to feature the couple together. The actress’s dresses were designed by fashion designer Jean Dessès. Paul Ronald served as director of photography.
