LOUIS DE FUNES AND BOURVIL - Lot 109
LOUIS DE FUNES AND BOURVIL At an unidentified premiere, 1960s. Photograph, vintage silver print, stamped on the back. 18 x 12.5 cm, including margins. Note: Two major figures of French comedy, Louis de Funès and Bourvil, formed a particularly famous duo in the 1960s under the direction of Gérard Oury. In *Le Corniaud* (1965), Bourvil plays the naive Antoine Maréchal, manipulated by the arms dealer Léopold Saroyan, portrayed by Louis de Funès. They reunite in *La Grande Vadrouille* (1966), where their characters—a house painter and a conductor—must lead British airmen to the Free Zone during the Occupation. The contrast between Bourvil’s good-natured charm and Louis de Funès’s feverish authoritarianism contributes to the comic effectiveness of their scenes together.
