RENEE FAURE AND GERARD PHILIPE - Lot 130
RENEE FAURE AND GERARD PHILIPE During the filming of Christian-Jaque's movie "The Charterhouse of Parma," 1948. Photo by G.R. Aldo, vintage silver gelatin print on cardstock, credits (including the photographer) in the image, blank reverse. Note: In this Franco-Italian adaptation of Stendhal’s novel, Gérard Philipe plays Fabrice del Dongo, a young, adventurous aristocrat imprisoned in the citadel of Parma. Renée Faure plays Clélia Conti, the daughter of the prison governor, with whom Fabrice falls in love from his cell. Their thwarted love is one of the film’s main narrative driving forces, alongside the passion that Fabrice’s aunt, Duchess Gina de Sanseverina—played by Maria Casarès—harbors for him. The set photograph is by G. R. Aldo, who is also credited as such by the Cinémathèque française. 27.6 x 22 cm, including margins.
