JOHN FORD AND JOHN WAYNE - Lot 175
JOHN FORD AND JOHN WAYNE The two legends of the Western, during the filming (next to a Cinerama camera) of the movie “How the West Was Won,” 1962. Photo, vintage silver print, captioned and annotated on the back. 24 x 19.2 cm. Some signs of handling visible only when held up to the light. Note: Two major figures of the American Western are brought together here on the set of *How the West Was Won*. This epic film chronicling the conquest of the West was directed by three filmmakers: Henry Hathaway, George Marshall, and John Ford. Ford directed the segment devoted to the Civil War, in which John Wayne plays General William Tecumseh Sherman. The film was shot in Cinerama, a spectacular process that simultaneously uses three 35 mm cameras to create a panoramic image projected onto a highly curved screen. Released in 1962—and then in February 1963 in the United States—it features an exceptional cast, including James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck, and Debbie Reynolds.
