JEAN GABIN AND ROLAND LESAFFRE - Lot 193
JEAN GABIN AND ROLAND LESAFFRE Boxing… scenes from Marcel Carné’s film “L’Air de Paris,” 1954. 2 photos by Walter Limot, vintage silver gelatin prints, stamped by the photographer and annotated on the back. Note: Jean Gabin plays Victor Le Garrec, a former boxer turned coach who runs a modest Parisian gym with his wife Blanche, played by Arletty. In André Ménard—a young railroad worker portrayed by Roland Lesaffre—he recognizes the qualities of the champion he has long dreamed of training. An almost father-son relationship develops between the coach and his protégé, but André’s future in boxing is jeopardized by his encounter with Corinne, a young woman from a more affluent background. Marcel Carné sought to realistically portray the lives of amateur boxers in Paris. Roland Lesaffre personally fought his final on-screen bout, filmed over four days against former champion Séraphin Ferrer. Walter Limot is officially credited as the set photographer. 13 x 18 cm each.
