CATHERINE DENEUVE AND JEAN MARAIS - Lot 207
CATHERINE DENEUVE AND JEAN MARAIS Scene from Jacques Demy’s film “Peau d’âne,” 1970. Photograph, vintage silver print, annotated on the back. 17.8 x 26.5 cm. Note: In this musical adaptation of Charles Perrault’s fairy tale, Catherine Deneuve plays Princess Peau d’Âne—as well as her mother, the queen—while Jean Marais plays her father, the Blue King. Now a widower, the king plans to marry his own daughter, the only woman whose beauty rivals that of the late queen. Advised by the Lilac Fairy, played by Delphine Seyrig, the princess demands dresses that are impossible to make, then flees disguised in a donkey’s skin. Jacques Demy transforms the fairy tale into a marvelous and colorful world, brought to life by Michel Legrand’s music and the costumes of Agostino Pace and Gitt Magrini. Note:
