PAUL NEWMAN AND PIER ANGELI - Lot 223
PAUL NEWMAN AND PIER ANGELI During the filming of Robert Wise’s movie “Somebody Up There Likes Me” (1956). Photograph, vintage silver print, credits below the image, blank reverse. 25.8 x 20.3 cm including borders. Note: Paul Newman plays Rocky Graziano, a famous New York boxer from a violent background, whose youth was marked by delinquency, prison, and a troubled stint in the military. Pier Angeli plays Norma, the young woman he marries, who supports him both in his personal rehabilitation and in his rise to the world middleweight title. Adapted from Rocky Graziano’s autobiography and written by Ernest Lehman, the film combines social drama, a sports narrative, and a story of redemption. Newman’s physical and intense performance was hailed by critics and played a major role in establishing him as a new Hollywood star. The film won Oscars for its black-and-white cinematography and art direction. Note: Some signs of handling.
