MARY MURPHY AND JOHN PAYNE - Lot 76
MARY MURPHY AND JOHN PAYNE Photomontage created from stills from Phil Karlson’s VistaVision film *Hell’s Island* (1955). Photograph, vintage silver gelatin print, credits below the image, and blank reverse. 25.7 x 20 cm including edges. Note: John Payne plays Mike Cormack, a former district attorney who has become the head of security at a Las Vegas casino. A mysterious client sends him to the fictional Caribbean republic of Puerto Rosario to track down a missing ruby. There he reunites with his former fiancée Janet Martin, played by Mary Murphy, whose husband is in prison for murder. Still drawn to her, Mike gets caught up in a plot involving emotional manipulation, escape, and the search for the gem. Told largely through flashbacks, this crime-adventure film continues the dark vein of previous collaborations between Phil Karlson and John Payne. It was shot in Technicolor and in the VistaVision widescreen format.
