Claude Venard : a French collection in auction

Spotlight on Ten Works by Claude Venard

📍 As part of our auction on Friday, April 18 at 2 p.m., we are pleased to present ten emblematic works by Claude Venard, all from the same private collection.

This remarkable selection showcases the artistic consistency and thematic richness of this key figure of French post-Cubism, currently honored with a retrospective at the Jean Couty Museum in Lyon.

A Unique and Recognizable Style

Across still lifes, nudes, landscapes, and imaginary scenes, Claude Venard expresses his unmistakable visual language: angular shapes, vibrant colors, and structured compositions, all energized by his singular pictorial force.

Selected Highlights:

  • Homard (73 x 92 cm) – A post-Cubist still life where the lobster becomes a striking visual symbol.
  • Still Life with Globe (100 x 100 cm) – A balanced, geometrically stylized composition mixing tradition and modernity.
  • The Sky Pedalers (130 x 162 cm, 1965) – A poetic, monumental canvas echoing a piece held at the Jean Couty Museum.
  • Nude (100 x 65 cm) – Stylized sensuality and a powerful use of light and form.
  • Nude (75 x 75 cm) – A square-format variation exploring the human form with geometric energy.
  • The Two Friends (46 x 55 cm) – Intimate and expressive, with strong geometric clarity and vibrant color.
  • Still Life with Candlestick (75 x 75 cm) – An everyday object elevated to a strong pictorial presence.
  • The Lighthouse (55 x 46 cm) – A stylized vision of the maritime landscape, compact and radiant.
  • Almond Trees in Bloom (75 x 75 cm) – A poetic take on spring, full of expressive color and form.
  • Still Life with Red Coffee Pot (27 x 46 cm) – A small yet intense work capturing the power of the ordinary.

A Cohesive and Rare Collection
