The comment of our wine expert

Focus: Château Beychevelle, the history of a great wine

Since its construction in 1565 by Bishop François de Foix-Candale, then the reign of the Dukes of Epernon (of whom the great admiral Jean-Louis Nogaret de la Valette was the first), a new château was built in the middle of the 18th century by the Marquis de Brassier, Baron de Beychevelle.

The Duke's power and fame were such that boats passing by the estate had to lower their sails as a sign of allegiance. The name "Beychevelle" meaning "Lowered Sail", thus became the emblem of the castle, a ship with the prow of a griffin, guardian of the wine crater of Dionysus in Greek mythology.

In 1990 the Beychevelle Foundation was created to benefit contemporary art, the Equinoxe screenwriting festival from 1993 to 2003 and the partnership with the Mécénart association.

Among the most beautiful vintages of the estate, to be discovered: 6 magnums of 1996, 1 magnum of 2003, 6 bottles of 1998 and a selection of Amiral de Beychevelle.

The Ellipse cuvée, adorned with its handmade Baccarat crystal decanter, is composed of eaux-de-vie from seven generations of master blenders, and celebrates Hennessy's know-how. All of Hennessy's cellar masters come from the same family, the Fillioux, who have passed on their knowledge and expertise from father to son for over two centuries.

Launched in 2006, only 2000 bottles were produced.
Following the success of its predecessor Hennessy Timeless, the Ellipse cuvée has carved out a place for itself in the history of Cognac with its unique blend of carefully selected eaux-de-vie, the oldest dating from 1771.
