Auguste Herbin, a French painter born in 1882, passed through several artistic periods, from post-impressionism to cubism and abstraction. His works, influenced by his encounters with renowned artists such as Picasso and Braque, offer a rich and varied artistic panorama.

Artistic career:

After his Impressionist beginnings, Herbin immersed himself in Cubism, exhibiting at the Salon des Indépendants in 1910. During his period in Céret (1913-1923), he created iconic works such as "Paysages à Céret." Co-founder of the Salon des Surindépendants in 1929, he moved towards abstraction, developing his plastic alphabet based on synesthesia. This period culminated in such notable works as "Réalité spirituelle" (1938) and "Matin II" (1952).

The Plastic Alphabet:

In 1946, Herbin created his "Alphabet Plastique", a major work influencing the second generation of abstract artists.
